I would hope that as much, if not more, research is being done on nanobatteries to enable a recharge of only minutes instead of hours. Unless convenience for the user is provided by the manufacturer in all aspects, the vehicle will not displace the internal combustion model.

Sounds like a great idea. People might even be happy when they get to work if there is less traffic or they haven't had to drive themselves. Scientists do say that exercise releases endorphines as well. Cool!

Maynard is an architect and this is certainly a bike about more about ideas than a thorough industrial design solution. I'm not sure we need to be so critical, check out his site, Maynard has designed many objects - cars to houses - which are basic in their appreciation of constructibility but detailed in the issues they address. But yes, as a cyclist and an architecture student I too feel this would need a fair bit of tweaking to actually get it off of the ground, we can hope! By the way, I ride a singlespeed fixed gear and while not for everyone, their popularity for commuting is certainly taking off!

So far after 2 months of riding almost every day, I haven't had any problems with the ElecTrec. As far as distance, I have gone 11 miles on a charge while pedaling before I felt the battery going weak. It takes you from a dead stop to 15 mph on flat ground fast. The only negative thing I can find is the weight. It is fairly heavy with the battery. I ordered another battery and place it on a rear wheel rack so I can go further distances. This bike I can ride without worrying about things going wrong with it. So far so good

The best I have found is http://www.cellularchallenge.net . They clear your personal data (pictures, numbers, text messages) and you can print postage directly from their site and just drop it in the mail It’s easy and they accept our older phones as well and give them to a good cause and keep the material out of the landfill.

Air compression will definitely use high-power electrical engines. If technology goes global (like fossil fuels) the demand for electricity will be huge so it certainly will increase price of electricity, not to mention CO2 emissions in countries where they have Coal Power Plants.
IMHO, the technology is not as exciting and promising as it seems.
